NORDIC CYBERCRIME CONFERENCE 2020

OCTOBER 22–23
NOW ONLINE ONLY

WELCOME

DIGSUM – the Centre for Digital Social Research and the Department of Law at Umeå university has the pleasure of inviting you to the annual Nordic Cybercrime Conference 2020, taking place online on the 22–23 of October.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The conference is a continuation of a tradition established by Aalborg University who arranged the conference in 2017 and 2018, and Politihøgskolen in Oslo who arranged the conference in 2019. The ambition is to rotate the conference between the Nordic countries. This year, given Covid-19, we will meet online.

For this conference we wish to gather researchers within legal science, policing studies, political science, social science, technology, philosophy, criminology, sociology and cultural sciences, gender studies, or any other field interested in the consequences of digitalization for criminality, policing and the rule of law. We are also keen to invite practitioners and stakeholders with particular interest in the theme of the conference.

Update: now online only.

We originally planned for a flexible format which would allow for both physical attendance for those who could, and the possibility of digital attendance for those unable to attend in person. However, due to new university policy on the arrangement of public facing events, the conference will be held online only.

While it would have been great to welcome you all to Umeå, we believe the online conference will be the best way forward to ensure that all the interesting presentations and discussions can take place without delay.

The conference is cross-disciplinary and aims to highlight themes which are relevant for several different fields. We are happy to accept suggestions for themes or panels. Following requests from last year’s conference the conference language will be English.

THE PROGRAMME

Our distinguished keynote speaker is Marion Oswald, Senior Fellow in Law at the University of Northumbria, she researches the interaction between law and digital technology and has a particular interest in the use of information and innovative technology by criminal justice bodies and the wider public sector. Among her many engagements Marion chairs the West Midlands Police & Crime Commissioner and West Midlands Police data ethics committee and is a member of the Council of Europe Working Group of Experts on Artificial Intelligence and Criminal Law.

We welcome presentations from senior and junior academics as well as practitioners, while PhD students who wish to present their projects or findings are given priority.
