DIGSUM expertise featured at ECAT workshop on DSA compliance

DIGSUM researcher Moa Eriksson Krutrök recently participated in an expert workshop organized by the European Centre for Algorithmic Transparency (ECAT) at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre in Sevilla. The workshop brought together researchers and specialists working on the evaluation of how digital platforms comply with the Digital Services Act (DSA), with a particular focus on studying systemic risks using publicly available data.

ECAT contributes scientific and technical expertise to support the European Commission’s supervisory and enforcement role in relation to Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) and Very Large Online Search Engines (VLOSEs). Moa serves as an expert in the group assisting the Commission in developing methods and frameworks for evaluating platform compliance with these transparency and systemic-risk obligations.

During the workshop, Moa presented her ongoing project in the investigation, “Ephemeral Risks: Livestreams, Crisis, and the Dynamics of Disinformation,” which examines how livestreamed content shapes the spread and perception of (mis)information during crises, and the particular challenges this poses for oversight, transparency, and researchers’ access to data. The project also includes DIGSUM researchers Therese Enarsson and Felicia Lundstedt.
